A broken power button can be really annoying and a little embarrassing. After all, if you can't switch your device on then it's no more useful. Just recently i found myself having to deal with the issue of a broken power button on my Innjoo device which led me to this temporary fix (If you want a permanent solution, you should fix your broken power button).
If your device has this issue then there are two possible states your device is in: Your device is powered on but you can't wake it up or your device is switched off and you can't boot it up. Below is a fix for both problems...
Turn on your devices without power button: SWITCHED OFF
Frankly, this is the worst, I mean, I've battled for hours just to turn on my device without any hope, not even a flicker. Fortunately this method has helped me countless number of times. It is important to point out that different methods will work depending on the make and model of your device. This was recently tested on an Innjoo device.
First and easiest is to plug your phone into the charger in case the battery is depleted. Some phones may even switch on this way but if yours doesn't, don't panic, follow the next option.
Second, with some charge in your battery, preferably 5 percent or more, (the screen should show the percentage even if it's off) try unplugging it from the main charger and connecting to a PC or laptop via USB. Device like the Motorola Moto G boots up instantly.
Now this Third option is the best, we boot into Power Mode and turn on the device from there. The idea is to boot into Power Mode on your device so for different devices try to get the specific key combination to boot into Power Mode but this combination applies generally.
- With the device off, press both the Volume UP button and the Volume DOWN button together
- Plug in the charger, preferably, a USB Cable connected to a PC, and then press and hold the HOME key still with the Volume UP and Volume DOWN buttons still pressed and wait for the device to boot into Power Mode (this might take a while).
- On Samsung Devices, once you're in Power Mode press Volume Down to restart the device.
- For other devices including MTK Devices, but only if you had USB DEBUGGING turned on before the device was turned off: On your computer Open a command prompt and locate ADB then type "adb reboot"
- Done, your device has been turned on successfully.
How to turn on phone without power button: SWITCHED ON
If your phone is already turned on but asleep, then you don't have much to worry about as opposed to it being turned off. Simply plugging your device to a power source will wake it up.With some phones, like Samsung Galaxys and Infinix, a broken power button isn't too much bother because the physical home button below the screen will wake it up. You might also be able to double tap to wake depending on the device you have. Most smartphones don't use physical keys so there's no way of waking it up.
There are various things you can do to wake up your phone without using the power button. You can try getting someone to ring you. If you have a physical camera button use this to launch the camera app then quit out. Not all these methods are convenient ways to wake up your phone with no power button so once you have gained access you'll want to install an app which will help you wake the device up. Remember you'll still need to stop it running out of juice.
Power button to Volume Button does exactly what you'd expect, Gravity Screen will put your device to sleep when placed face down on a flat surface or in your pocket then wake it up when you pick it up. Alternatively, Proximity Actions is a way of waking a device up with the proximity sensor and Shake Screen On Off is pretty self-explanatory.
